Relay for Life
Relay for Life was out biggest event all year and Foothill KIWIN'S is proud to report that $4,949 was raised! But the event was was more than raising money, it was an opportunity to serve the community and create new connection for our club. We were able to team up with a local Kwanis board member and learn about her battle with cancer. We held a garage sale at her house and sold raffle tickets to raise money. Almost all of our 25 team members came to the Relay for Life event and more than half the team spent the night. At the event we held a Dora the Explorer scavenger hunt to raise extra money. From learning to hula hoop or working on AP homework, Relay for Life was an incredible opportunity for Foothill KIWIN'S to come and work together for cancer research and the American Cancer Society. We will be back next year for another amazing Relay!
Masquerade for Africa The Masquerade for Africa was a fundraiser held on June 26 at the Poinsettia Pavilion. The event's primary goal was to fund raise for Schools for Salone, a program aimed towards building schools in underprivileged villages in Africa. This is an organization close to our adviser's heart and a part of fundraising was to send him back to Sierra Leone to train teachers in remote villages. KIWIN'S members gathered a few hours prior to the event to help set up and receive job assignments for the actual event. During the event, members encouraged guests to participate in the silent auction, face painting, and writing or drawing messages on a Schools for Salone mural, which the teachers will take on their trip to Africa in July. Massages, psychic readings, and photo booths were also available to guest in an effort to raise money for the program. The event was a huge success and FTHS KIWIN'S is proud to have contributed to such a great cause and supported our adviser!
